Ohio Woman Meets Carl Edwards and the Aflac Duck
Lorie Childers Won Day in California with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver Carl Edwards and the Famed Aflac Duck
Columbus, Ga. (Feb. 21, 2008) — After a tough year in 2007, Lorie Childers was ready to turn the calendar to 2008. Childers, from Middletown, Ohio, won the trip of a lifetime to meet No. 99 Aflac Racing driver Carl Edwards and the famous Aflac Duck in California, and it couldn't have come at a better time.
During the last two years, Childers, 53, lost her job of 30 years at the local steel mill and mourned the deaths of her mother-in-law and husband. Her husband, Jim, would have turned 67 on Jan. 10, which also would have been their 27th wedding anniversary.
Childers was afforded a respite from her personally trying year when she, and seven female friends and relatives, took a trip to New York City in November. The city was hosting NASCAR's Champions Week, and it was there that she discovered the Aflac Pit Stop. At each "pit stop" she had her picture taken and was handed Aflac-branded giveaways. When she returned home to Ohio, Childers logged on to AflacRacing.com to access her photos and registered to win the contest to meet Edwards and the duck. She couldn't believe it when she received the call that she had won.
"I have never won anything in my life," Childers said. "This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm still pinching myself. It was a wonderful time."
Childers won the all-expense-paid trip for two to California to meet Edwards and the Aflac Duck. She chose to take her nephew, John. She and her nephew were chauffeured to Irwindale Speedway to view the filming of an Aflac commercial, where they met the famed driver and duck.
Childers won the contest by entering on the Aflac Racing Web site. She was chosen at random.
